MTV VMA's Recap: BEP, Chamillionaire Win Big
By: SoundSlam Published: Sep. 1, 2006 - New York, NY
Each year millions of MTV viewers watch on as their favorite artists are hailed at the Video Music Awards (VMA). Last night, the spotlight shone on the historic Radio City Music Hall in New York as Jack Black hosted the annual event.
Despite an overall lackluster vibe to the evening, a few lone moments stood out as interesting, exciting, and well, simply peculiar. While many award presentations leave little room for surprises, the winners who took home the most hardware includes the Black Eyed Peas, Chamillionaire, and director Hype Williams.
BEP's "My Humps" bumped out everyone in the category of 'Best Hip-Hop Video', Chamillionaire rode dirty on the way to the stage as "Ridin' Dirty" topped 50 Cent, Missy, and others for 'Best Rap Video', and Beyonce and Slim Thug checked out with a moonman for "Check On It" in the 'Best R&B' selection.
Kanye West, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera surprisingly left empty handed. The awards overall featured a heavy Rock'n'Roll and Punk overtone as Panic! at the Disco, AFI, All-American Rejects, and others won awards.
