Queen Latifah Officially Cemented As A Star In Hollywood
By: SoundSlam Published: Jan. 4, 2006 - New York, NY
Hollywood, California is the mecca of film industry stardom and rapper-turned-actress Queen Latifah has been cemented in history. The 35-year-old Newark, New Jersey native will be granted a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today, January 4th, 2006. This selection clearly crowns her achievements in the film, modeling, and music business and will be the 2,298th star solidified along the world-renowned celebrity boulevard.
Latifah’s career in the entertainment industry was conceived with her 1989 debut hip hop album All Hail The Queen. Her near-feminist approach to rhyme spitting, just as her female emcee predecessors, let listeners and artists both know that women were equally capable of creating strong rap records, exemplified best by her hugely popular “U.N.I.T.Y.” Nature Of A Sista, Black Reign, Order In The Court, and her latest installment, The Dana Owens Album, all convey her rich musical abilities and style.
On film, Latifah made her debut in Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever and eventually garnered roles in Set It Off, Chicago, Bringing Down The House, and so on. She was also featured in the early-90s sitcom Living Single and on her own late-90s talk show.
Dana Owens will be honored in front of the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre at 6915 Hollywood Boulevard alongside the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce representative(s) and others.
