Eminem Music Used to Torture Prisoners

It seems that even Hip-Hop has a role to play in the current War on Terror. With the Bush Administration fielding questions about secret prisons, and torture techniques over the last week, an anti-torture advocacy group, Human Rights Watch, released a report stating that music from multi-platinum Hip-Hop artists Eminem and Dr. Dre were used to torture prisoners.
According to the Associated Press, one prisoner, who was allegedly held in a secret prison in Afghanistan, told Human Rights Watch that, “he was kept in a pitch-black prison and forced to listen to Eminem and Dr. Dre’s rap music for 20 days before the music was replaced by
‘horrible ghost laughter and Halloween sounds.’” Other prisoners voiced similar experiences saying that they were, “deprived of sleep, chained to walls and forced to listen to loud music in total darkness for days.”
Human Rights Watch gathered statements from the attorneys who represent, “enemy combatants” that are being held at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. The group was not allowed access to speak directly with the prisoners.
As of today no statement has been issued on behalf of Dr. Dre or Eminem about the use of their music on suspected terrorists. The CIA has not released one either, and the Bush Administration continues to stand by their position that the U.S. does not use torture as a means to interrogate prisoners.
