By: SoundSlam Published: Aug. 9, 2005 - Chicago, IL
America’s most celebrated College Dropout, Kanye West, has added another award to his collection. Mr. West was recently presented with the Million Man March Image Award by the Board of Directors of the Millions More Movement. The award was given to West on July 24th, at the Nation of Islam Headquarters in Chicago, IL.
West earned the award for his music as well as his work with students throughout the country. In February Kanye West established the Kanye West Foundation. Ironically enough, the foundation aims to prevent students from dropping out of school. The initiative is entitled Loop Dreams, and works to give students otherwise at risk of dropping out of school experience in writing and producing music. He also stresses the importance of the presence of musical instruments in schools.
Millions are expected to gather in Washington D.C. as part of the Millions More Movement. The Movement will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March. The goal of the movement is to facilitate union building and community-based problem solving. Various Civil Rights organizations have endorsed the March, including the NAACP.
