Last week news broke that McDonald’s was looking to improve their uniforms. McDonald’s, in an effort to make their uniforms more flashy and stylish, reached out to fashion designers P. Diddy, Tommy Hilfiger, and Russell Simmons as potential makers of the new uniforms. Well, one of them is officially off the list.
At a recent Phat Farm promotional event in Vancouver, Canada, Russell Simmons stated that Phat Farm will not be designing anything for McDonald’s. Simmons, founder of the Def Jam record label, as well as HHSAN, was somewhat upset that his name would be linked to the fast food chain. He said, “Not only is it not true, I'm not in talks with them [McDonalds]. I'm a vegan! It goes against my principles…I don't eat anything that runs away from me. I'm going to have to issue a rebuttal about this.”
Simmons was not in Vancouver just to promote Phat Farm. He has also spent time up North taking part in the filming of the Showtime Series The L Word. The television show takes a deeper look at lesbianism and sexuality. Simmons will star as himself in the show in an undisclosed number of episodes. About his reason for appearing in the series Simmons stated, “I think there's a lot of girls who are struggling with their sexuality and they're living with the Bible Belt in America or somewhere and they've been abused for having a certain sexual orientation…They're inspired by The L Word. They deserve something like The L Word.
