Let Skills Speak
Artist: Method Man
Interviewer: Brandon Greene
You know him well. He is the original member of the Wu-Tang Clan better known as Iron Lung, Tical, Wu Brother #1, Johnny Blaze, and of course...Method Man. Soundslam caught up with Meth to gain his insights on the new album, his run-ins with the radio, and his general feelings about the industry. You don't want to miss this.
Soundslam: What's up Meth?
Meth: I can't call it.
Soundslam: I read your comments about how Jay-Z and these other execs need to stop signing dudes who been in the game, and find some new talent. Being an artist myself, I felt that to the heart. What made you say that?
Meth: I was just repeating what the streets were saying. I think it got taken out of context. I really don't feel anyway about it personally.
Soundslam: I am from Las Vegas, so I heard about the whole hot 97.5, Mike P incident could you explain what happened?
Meth: It wasn't nothing. I heard something and responded. I called the station, and that was that. Then I got a voicemail. According to him nothing happen, so it is what it is.
Soundslam: You've had a couple run-ins with radio personalities as of late...are you ever worried about being black balled?
Meth: I found out that you can't even defend yourself. You got to see these people when you see them. Nothing is business any more, it's all personal. All I was doing was defending myself.
Soundslam: I heard a couple of the tracks and read that you said this will be your most personal album. What can fans expect?
Meth: People been doing a lot of speculating and defecating on the kid. Like I am wack or can't spit. Like I ain't been doing this the last ten years. The album is pretty much to prove them wrong.
Soundslam: What's your take on the industry's treatment of artists in general.
Meth: They treat the music like fast food. It moves in movements. The last dude to really show something was probably Kanye.
Soundslam: At this point in your career after movies and a Grammy, what do you see yourself having to prove if anything?
Meth: I ain't got to prove s**t.
Soundslam: With the game being so fickle and gimmicky what would you say to cats trying to knock down that door right now?
Meth: Be original. Everyone sound the same now. It's like you got have a dance to go with your raps.
Soundslam: Do you agree that Hip Hop is dead?
Meth: Anybody who says that...I mean people are idiots. The record industry as a whole is almost dead with all the downloading and all that. These bastards can't sell any albums so they go George Bush on the artist and turn the alert levels up on their careers.
Soundslam: Is the whole bring it back to New York movement bad for Hip Hop?
Meth: No, it's good. Hip Hop has always been competitive. They don't say it's hating in football when Dallas fans want to bring the championship back to Dallas. I'm rooting for the home team. It started here, it's going to finish here, but I f***s with everybody though.
Soundslam: When is the album set to drop?
Meth: August 29th, it's called 4:21 The Day After.
Soundslam: What do have to say to the fans?
Meth: Believe half of what you hear, none of what you read, and everything I say.
